Rockdale Taekwondo Karate was founded in 1985 by Master Todd Wood, a 4th Dan Black Belt. Mr. Keith Kinder, now a 4th Dan Black Belt, was an assistant instructor for Rockdale Taekwondo Karate under Master Wood. Today the school is owned and operated by Mr. Kinder with the same values and beliefs as Master Wood instilled into the school. Our goal is to teach the qualities of self-defense, self-control, self-esteem and instill self-confidence.
Taekwondo is a Korean traditional martial art of Self-Defense. The origin of Taekwondo was sometime around 57 BC. The art of Taekwondo utilizes the legs as the main weapon for self-defense because the legs are a longer and stronger than the arms. Taekwondo was recognized as an Olympic sport in 2000 and has become one of the largest Martial Arts in the world today.
As a defensive martial art Taekwondo is a devastatingly effective means of self-defense. With proper execution the techniques used in Taekwondo can stop an attacker with minimal effort from the Taekwondo practitioner. At Rockdale Taekwondo Karate we teach that Taekwondo should ONLY be used as a last resort and other means should be attempted prior to using Taekwondo. In teaching this, it is also taught that one can escalate directly to defense mode if the situation calls for such. We take self-defense seriously and feel that a person who is capable of defending themselves is less likely to be attacked.
